Abstract


The purpose of this research is to describe students 'mistakes and factors that influence students' mistakes in naming a saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon compound. The form of research is descriptive. Collection technique is measurement.
Instrument in the form of filling out questionnaires and concept understanding tests.
Based on the research results of students' mistakes in naming saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds including very poor categories namely naming the number of similar alkyl groups, determining the names of alkyl groups, determining the priority of alkyl groups; the less categories are distinguishing the names of alkanes, alkenes and alkenes, determining the main chain, determining the position of the alkyl group, and determining the number of double bonds; the sufficient category is to determine the number of alkyl groups. From the results of the study found factors that influence students' mistakes in naming a saturated and
unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds namely the lack of question exercises. 75% of students like this material, but only 22% of students who try to learn this material by frequently doing exercises on hydrocarbons. Based on the results of the study given advice for students to do more exercises to practice memory and efforts to apply concepts.
