Abstract


Professional competence is one of the competencies that teachers must have. This relates to the role of the teacher which greatly influences students where these students are the nation's next generation.
This study aims to determine the effect of professional chemistry teacher competence on student motivation. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. The study population was chemistry teachers and students. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, interviews and observations.
The results of the study are based on a recapitulation of the level of professional competence of chemistry teachers in the good category, student motivation in the good category. Chemistry teacher professional competence affects student motivation in learning chemistry, the better the teacher's
professional skills the higher the student motivation to learn chemistry.
