Abstract

Evaporative cooling is an air conditioning process uses water evaporation
to cool the air flow directly or indirectly so the temperature of the cooled air
is lower than the one before. In air conditioning systems, evaporative
coolers are used in hot and dry areas, both as pre-cooler and humidifier.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of the evaporative system, direct and indirect types. The study was conducted by testing the evaporative equipment which is operated directly and indirectly by varying the debit of air flow.
The result show that the average cooling capacity of the direct evaporative
system was about 20% higher compared to indirect system operation. This is due to direct evaporative cooling by sensible and latent heat, whereas
indirect evaporative systems only absorb sensible heat. This is also shown by the increase in humidity in the direct evaporative system.

Keywords: Performance, direct evaporative, indirect evaporative.
