Abstract

Since the 1990s refrigerant R-22 or hydrochloroflourocarbons (HCFC) are
widely used in vapor compression refrigeration systems, but in the 2000s this refrigerant began to be considered to be banned because of the ozone layer damage or ODP (potential for ozone depletion)) and cause high global warming or GWP (Global Warming Potential). Therefore we need an environmentally friendly refrigerant, one of which is the Musicool-22 or MC22 hydrocarbon refrigerant which is one of the products
of R-290 (propane). In this study, both types of refrigerant are used as
primary refrigerant, with a mixture of propylene glycol and water as secondary refrigerant in the brine cooling refrigeration system. The main refrigerant, R-22 and MC-22 are used instead of the same secondary refrigerant. The cooled product load in the cabin consists of 4 liters of fresh cow's milk product released at the cabin temperature of 4.5 ° C. From the results of data processing, the difference in system performance is obtained, namely the actual COP value and Carnot COP refrigeration system with R-22 of 2,965 and 5,280 with an efficiency of 56.15%, while for a refrigeration system with MC-22 of 2.984 and 5.347 with an efficiency of 55.81%. Also obtained different chilling time to reach temperatures of 4.5 ° C, they are 48 minutes (R-22) and 121 minutes (MC-22).
