Abstract

Inverter is used to regulate the compressor rotation of air conditioning (A/C) based on the cooling load in the room. Mostly, the cooling load comes from external, which is from the sun. Because the heat from the solar is not constant, consequently the cooling load in the room is not constant as well.
However, the compressor of  A/C without inverter operates at fixed rotation, which is at a high rotation. It results in a waste of energy consumption by the A/C. The inverter is able to be used to regulate the compressor rotation follows the cooling load variations. A decrease in compressor rotation results in a decrease in power consumption by the A/C.The present study carried out an experimental investigation to compare the energy consumption of inverter and non-inverter A/Cs with a capacity of 1 HP. The experiments were performed in the controlled room with indoor temperature set point of 24oC and constant outdoor temperature, which is 32 C. Based on the experiments for 3 hours, the A/C with inverter and non-inverter consume energy of 1.45 kWh and 1.91 kWh, respectively. It means using an inverter is able to result in the energy consumption reduction by 24,1%.
