Abstract

The heat energy generated by the compressor discharge pipe on a split AC
machine can be utilized, one of which is to heat feed water in a boiler machine (steam boiler). The split AC machine that is utilized is a type of air cooled remote condensing unit in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering laboratory of Bandung State Polytechnic. Double pipe heat exchanger with opposite direction of flow is placed directly on the outside of the compressor output, with 1,18 m of length, 1 inch of discharge pipe diameter, and 2 inch of annulus pipe diameter. The research was conducted by varying flow rate of cooling water on the annulus side, with the number of Debit is: 0,01 liter/s, 0,06 liter/s, 0,10 liter/s, and 0,15 liter/s respectively, with an average temperature of the discharge pipe entry side is 89,2 °C and an average of cooling water inlet temperature is 26,3 °C.  The result showed that an average of cooling water outlet temperature for cooling water debit of 0,01 liter/s, 0,06 liter/s, 0,10 liter/s, and 0,15 liter/s were 41,3 °C, 35,4 °C, 31,7 °C, and 30,3 °C respectively, while the effectiveness of the heat exchanger gave the result of 11%, 10%, 10% and 18%.
