Hydrocarbon refrigerants are increasingly being used as a cooling medium in refrigeration systems and air conditioning systems because they are
considered to have an environmentally friendly advantage that does not cause depletion of the ozone layer and does not cause global warming. The use of hydrocarbon refrigerants is also considered to have an effect on saving the consumption of electricity used. The purpose of this research is to know changes in the performance of the cool room engine due to the amount of refrigerant that varies. The research method is carried out on a cool room engine with a capacity of 0.5 HP that has been specially designed charged with R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant. The amount of refrigerant that is varied is first the system is filled with the amount reduced by 10% of observations, then the system is filled with the amount that matches the data listed on the name plate and the next observation is the system filled with an amount of 10% more than the data stated in the name- plate. From the observations obtained results for the systems that are reduced by 10%, systems that are filled according to the name plate and systems that are filled more 10% in a row show : Chilling time that can be achieved is 170 minutes, 80 minutes and 70 minutes, while The COP that can be achieved is 4.15; 4.91 and 4.90 with an efficiency of 75.2%; 78.8% and 78.79%. The energy consumption consumed during the 300 minute observation shows: 52.6 kWh; 58.9 kWh and 66.2 kWh.
