PENGEMBANGAN MATERIAL KOMPOSIT KERAMIK DARI ABU TERBANG BATUBARA DAN KAOLIN CLAY APLIKASI UNTUK PENGOLAHAN AIR BERSIH
Abstract
River water is the raw water for clean water right now, the condition is very
worrying because it has been polluted by many dangerous chemicals,
including heavy metals, harmful microorganisme that can interfere with
health. The problem of clean water is a problem that must be resolved, so to solve the problem a good water treatment technology is needed. This study aims to design a water treatment system using a ceramic membrane filter composite of coal ash, kaolin clay and chitosan with an experiental variable material composition 57% : 41% : 2% ; 47% : 51% : 3% ; 37% : 61% : 2% for the Gambir river water purification. Ceramic composite membranes are made by extrude or membrane printing methods and calcined at 1100 C and holding time for 6 hours. Filtration testing is carried out with the operating conditions of 1 bar pressure, the experimental variables in this study are the operating pressure and composition of the ceramic membrane material. The parameter for membrane characterization are the analysis test which includes permeability, membrane compressive test and SEM. The result obtained in this study indicate that the ceramic membrane with the composition of Coal
Ash : Kaolin Clay : Chitosan (57% : 41% : 2%) which is the most optimum
for river water purification is 496,721/m2.hours at pressure of 1 bar MB
ceramic membrane. The SEM analysis result show that the MB ceramic
membrane has smooth pores so that it has the potensial to be applied in river water treatment into clean water.
