In Search of SDG’s Competencies to be Implemented Into Science Curriculum at SMP (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) Level

Abstract


The Science curriculum at SMP (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) is an integration of Physics,
Biology, Chemistry, Astronomy, and Earth Science. Sustainable development goals (SDG)
which have been created by the UN (United Nations) should be infused into the school
curriculum. There are five points of SDG’s i.e ; (1) Clean water and sanitation, (2) Clean
energy, (3) Climate change, (4) Life underwater, and (5) Life on land, which will be
implemented into the science curriculum. The method of this research is quantitative
descriptive with two techniques for collecting data. First, researcher looked for SD keywords
in google trends around West Java area. Secondly, sample has been taken by purposive
sampling technique have been surveyed for 4 SD topics. About 240 science teachers in SMP
at West Java contributed to this research survey. Google trends show comparison between
two SD words in order to predict priority scale of competencies students needed. The
researcher found that more than 85% of teachers agree about SD competencies. This research
can be a reference for education stakeholders, especially teachers and curriculum developers
in connecting the values of SD with science competencies. By using big data resources, this
research can analyze which most SD values sought after and its relation with teachers
perspective from questionnaire.
