The Correlation Between Cheating Behavior and MCQ Score of Medical Students
Abstract
Background: Academic fraud occurs in almost all fields, including medical education. A study showed the results, of 296 students who completed the survey instrument with the same indicators, 16.3% admitted to cheating during the study. Currently, the MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) test using CBT (Computer Based Test) has been carried out but that does
not mean that cheating can be eliminated. This study aims to determine the relationship between cheating behavior and MCQ scores of medical students. Methods: This study uses an observational analysis design with a cross sectional approach. The sample is the medical faculty of the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang batch 2018, 2019, and 2020 obtained through the stratified random sampling technique. Collecting data using a questionnaire of academic cheating behavior. Testing and data analysis using the chi-square test. Results: This study has a total sample of 217 respondents. The results of the analysis show that in the
low category of cheating behavior with a percentage of 55.8, in the medium category with a percentage of 43.8, in the high category with a percentage of 0.5. The results of the analysis on the MCQ value of the pass category with a percentage of 7.8 and the category of not passing with a percentage of 92.2. The results of the bivariate analysis of the relationship
between cheating behavior and the MCQ value of medical students obtained p-value = 0.709. Conclusion: There is no correlation between cheating behavior and MCQ scores of medical students.
